This week, as part of our bid to highlight the great work being done in communities in which we work, we’re talking about Families Need Fathers in Swindon.
Families Need Fathers is a national organisation supporting parents experiencing difficulties over the care of their children. One of its local branches is in Swindon, where the ever-energetic Mike Davidson is the organiser and driving force of the group.
Ladies do not be put off! Despite the name, the group is for both mums and dads. You do not have to be involved in court proceedings, you just need to want some support around arranging the care of your children with the other parent.
The FNF group meets once a month in central Swindon. Mike tells us new members are always welcome. Once the COVID-19 lockdown is over, the meetings will start again. In the meantime, they are supporting one another via a WhatsApp group.
During meetings members discuss their current problems. There is also guest talking about particular topics. We have even been guest speakers before.
Mike tells us that as a parent, who himself has gone through problems in seeing his children, it is helpful to hear from both mums and dads on their experiences. The whole idea is to give one another support and to know you are not alone.
To join the group, contact Mike. You can find his number at https://fnf.org.uk/swindon.
