Lockdown and children’s mental health

Barnardo’s has recently shared its research into the impact of the coronavirus lockdown on children and young people’s mental health.

Those children questioned reported being more lonely, worried, sad, or stressed after lockdown than before.

Three quarters of the children and young people interviewed missed going to school.

The experience of lockdown and not attending school are likely to be even more intense for those children whose parents are also separating or considering a separation.

Added to that, is that those parents may still be living in the same house with their children and are forced to spend more time together. For example, because they are having to work from home.

It is therefore more important than ever that parents behave in a child-focused way.

It’s important your decisions about your children’s care are based on their best interests. Especially if you are a parent considering, or going through, a separation.
