It is important to remember that domestic abuse is experienced by both men and women.
We are currently experiencing another national lockdown across England. Wales is also part way through its firebreak lockdown.
In April, Women’s Aid conducted a survey, in which two out of three responders told the charity that domestic abuse was escalating during the first lockdown.
The Respect Men’s Advice Line, which offers support to men experiencing domestic abuse has reported that between April and July, covering the first lockdown, it received a 60% increase in calls and emails.
For anyone living in a domestically abusive relationship, the lockdown means there is limited time away from their abuser. It can increase their risk of harm, both physical and emotional.
If you are in need of help due to domestic abuse, the National Domestic Abuse helpline run by Refuge, which assists women is 0808 2000 247. The Respect Men’s Advice Line is 0808 8010327.
