A term you will hear a lot in a court case is ‘court bundle’ or ‘bundle’. This is one a term the Judges, barristers and solicitors use regularly. However, to people who are not used to court proceedings, it can be unfamiliar.
A court bundle is a pdf or hard copy (but generally pdfs now) of all of the important court documents in your case. The documents are put together in a specific way, set out by the courts and then each page is numbered.
Before each hearing the court (either a Judge or Magistrates) should be sent a copy of the court bundle. The parties and their representatives will also receive an identical copy.
During the hearing, and particularly hearings where the parties are giving evidence, the bundle will be used a lot to take the Judge/ Magistrates and any witnesses to specific documents.
For example, the barrister for the mother may say to the father when cross-examining him, please turn to page D4. Everyone in the hearing will then find that page in the bundle and will be looking at the same document. The father will then be asked questions about that document.
The purpose of the bundle is to make sure everyone involved in the hearing has an identical copy of the important court documents.
