Domestic abuse is a regular feature in cases involving the care of children, perpetrated by both men and women. It will not stop just because there is a global pandemic.
We are trying to focus on services available to people in the local areas we usually work in. Bristol is one of those areas.
Families and couples are spending long periods of time together during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a risk if domestic abuse is perpetrated in the home. What should someone do if they live in the Bristol area and they need help during the current restrictions?
Thankfully, domestic abuse workers have been classed by the government as key workers, so are able to continue supporting victims.
NextLink in Bristol remains open. It operates local domestic abuse support services in South and North Bristol and a specialist advice service for anyone worried about forced marriage. It also provides women’s mental health support services and independent support for victims of rape and sexual abuse.
If you are not from the Bristol area, you can find help via the National Domestic Violence helpline, by calling 0808 2000 247.
During these difficult times, everyone needs to stay safe, not just from Coronavirus, but also domestic abuse.
